My brother really, REALLY liked the game, so he made me use his factions preview weekend trial key to give the game a shot. While I wasn't too exicted about it, about 10 days later, I was like, "wow, I have some money burning a hole in my pocket" and impulsively decided to get the game, not even really thinking whether or not I actually wanted it.

I'm pretty sure I heard about it from gamespot.
If not that, then from that one site that lists all the current and upcoming MMOs. Betawatcher?

My brother was given a copy of prophecies for his birthday, and I remember thinking "This game is going to be so crap, how can a free to play game be any good? " He started raving on about it.. so I gave it a shot. And here we are nearly 3 years later...

First saw it during the E3 for everyone event. Played it for pretty much the whole weekend and then promised myself I would buy the game when it came out.

I saw the review for factions on X-play, it looked pretty good so I went out and bought it.

i remember going into the local futureshop to get a replacement speaker for my car. (note - do NOT travel with a full bong in the back of your car - speedbumps are NOT your friend) there was a posterboard cutout of some fairly sexy chick holding a skull.
when i finally found the customer service weenie (outside smoking) asked him about it, and was told "it's something wars - supposed to be RPG or something. it comes out next week." on that rave review, i put myself down for a copy of it. (ended up with the CE version of it - they wouldn't admit to having a cheaper copy) since then, more folks have shown up, and i'm still playing my ranger.
IGN stale bongwater. think i'm officially a COD (either cool old dude, or crusty old dinosaur, depending.)
peace, eh?

I was in EB Games looking at MMO's, debating between FFXI, WoW, and GW. They all had their points: I'm a long-time FF fan, WoW had tons of people on it, and Guild Wars had superior graphics and instanced areas. The clincher: I am cheap and only Guild Wars had no monthlies. Over 2 years later I'm still playing and still using the first character I ever made.

My cousin bought the game because it looked cool; he showed it to me, and at first I didn't know if I was gonna like it or not, but bought anyways. Didn't regret. Still not regretting 33 months after x].

I was mostly into FPS and RTS online. I was in a Medal of Honor:Allied Assault clan, and someone there kept raving about GW. I wasn't familiar with modern RPGs, but I was into some older ones like FF3,7,8, Chrono Trigger, etc. so I decided to give it a try. As a fan of those classics, I remember being very disappointed with the awful story of GW, but the scope of the game and the social element drew me in.

sounds like everybody who bought GW was because it had no monthly fees! LOL. Anyway i was in uni and had some free time on my hands so i looked up some online games and decided to get GW since there was no monthly fees (was in Uni so money was kinda tight). Went to EB and preordered prophecies with a friend. Played for a good year.

I was interested in the game because a few of my college friends were talking about it, but I knew that they would dump the game after a month and go back to their boring MMORPG's (FFXI and WOW at the time).. My oldest Bro bought it for my as a college graduation present. First computer I popped it on couldn't run it, lol. It took me 2 hours to leave ascalon city due to the lag. So it sat on my shelf for like 3-4 months before I got a computer that could run it and been playin ever since. (coming on 3 years soon - 4 months I needed a break but played LOTRO *slits wrists*)
